The Training Hut: Show the Code with MyWordz® technology, which shows the phonemes and graphemes for every word.
What if we could support speech sound processing earlier?
What if we could make reading and spelling easier for all brains?
What if we could simply show the speech to print code?

Show the Code!

Have a free play with Emma Hartnell-Baker (Miss Emma)'s Code Mapping® Tool, which shows which letters are functioning as graphemes, which she calls Speech Sound Pics® (pictures of speech sounds). The tool is aligned with the British IPA and works from left to right (shown in black), identifying grapheme boundaries throughout the text. Blue shows the split digraphs.
This was initially developed for teachers using her Speech Sound Pics® (SSP) Approach in Australia as a way to move more quickly towards orthographic mapping.
Unlike dyslexia fonts, which primarily make individual letters easier to distinguish visually, Mapped Words® show which letters work together as graphemes, making the structure of the alphabetic code visible. This directly supports the phonological processing, speech-to-print mapping and orthographic learning that many dyslexic learners find challenging. Rather than focusing on the visual appearance of letters alone, Show the Code helps learners understand how speech maps onto print, supporting accurate decoding, spelling and self-teaching. Because every reader must learn the same alphabetic code, this approach is applicable to all learners, while providing particular benefit for those who struggle to develop these mappings efficiently.
This is the Lite Version, which shows grapheme boundaries but does not include the option to display Phonemies® (Phonetic Symbols for Kids), nor does it allow you to download the mapped text into a document and choose fonts and other formatting options.
Miss Emma wanted children to be able to also see, instantly, the sound value of each grapheme as well as the grapheme boundaries.
The full version provides this through the use of Phonemies®.
